_______________________ Nerve Infiltrations Unfortunately, there is no one organization a physician can belong to or one certification a physician can receive assuring proficiency in CT-guided pudendal nerve blocks and/or perineural infiltration. There are, however, some organizations a pain specialist can belong to making it more likely that they would perform this type of treatment. These organizations include: The American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP). Note: This group now has their own certification examination, administered through the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians (ABIPP). The International Spinal Intervention Society (ISIS) The American Board of Anesthesiology Note: The Pain Medicine subspecialty certification offered by the American Board of Anesthesiology is the only one currently recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. The American Board of Pain Medicine (ABPM) Note: This group also now has their own certification exam. To complicate matters in this area, a fairly new (within the last 3 years) certification, Fellow in Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP), administered jointly through the World Institute of Pain (WIP) and American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians (ABIPP), is gaining recognition as the certificate to have, demonstrating proficiency in interventional pain techniques/treatments. The websites and organizations noted here are intended to provide a resource a patient or physician can use when searching for an interventional pain specialist with knowledge of nerve infiltrations. There are certainly specialists who do not belong to any of the above organizations that are very capable of treating PNE with CT-guided techniques. Conversely, there may be physicians qualified in all the above, who have never performed these injections. Therefore, being aware of these qualifications is intended to allow patients to gain the knowledge to make informed choices regarding their treatment for PNE. _______________________ |
